Our favorite beaches in the South of Menorca

Menorca is synonymous with virgin beaches, turquoise waters and indigenous nature, which is why it was declared a Biosphere Reserve.

As you know, our favorite beach on the entire island is Binibeca Vell beach , which we told you about in another post on this blog and we explained how to get there and why it is one of the best beaches on the entire island of Menorca.

Following our recommendation of beaches in the South but further to the West, we find some of the most famous southern beaches: Cala Macarella and its adjoining little sister Cala Macarelleta . It is also mandatory to visit Cala Mitjana and Mitjaneta , which have recently been considered the best beaches in Spain by GEO magazine, without forgetting Cala Turqueta, whose name already gives us a clue of the intense color of its waters or Cala Galdana , which are white sandy areas. with wonderful waters.

It is important that you study the wind that will be done before going to the beaches of the South, (I recommend the Windguru App) to be able to find these beaches with calm sea and worthy of photographing and enjoying, then you have to go on days when the wind blow North. Although you should know that everyone will make the same decisions about the beach to visit: calm sea, yes, but more people on the sand, what do you prefer?

Other beaches closest to our villas are Playa de Binigaus , it is one of the most popular virgin beaches on the island, with fine white sand and shallow depth, it is a 15-minute walk along the beach of Santo Tomás .

If you keep walking through the water once the sand is gone, you will find natural caves that are worth discovering and diving in them to enjoy the marine fauna.

Lesser known and highly recommended virgin beaches are Cala Tortuga , also called Arenal de Morella , together with Cala Presili , they are the most beautiful in the S´Albufera des Grau Natural Park . We advise that their access is not easy and you have to walk 30 minutes to access them, so we recommend you bring water, some food and good sun protection to spend a good day there. Not recommended to go with children.

Five kilometers from Mahón is the beach of Sa Mesquida and if you decide to spend the day on the sand, you will go crazy with the Cap Roig restaurant. It has views of the sea that you will always remember and a menu of exquisite rice dishes.

We love black rice. It has the best sunsets on the island, so it is recommended to go to dinner early.

We cannot forget another of my favorite marine corners of the island and also very close to our villas, Binidalí beach . Again white sand and turquoise water, with some fishermen’s houses presiding over the rocks, really a perfect corner for the typical Instagram photos. It is also one of the best beaches for paddle surfing.

Another of our favorite beaches, but which is not in the South, but north of Mahón, is the Es Grau beach. We love to go there when the wind blows from the south, which is when the sea there looks like a pond. The water is so transparent that we have found starfish on several occasions. Ideal for paddle surfing or renting a kayak and going to the neighboring cove in Vidrier. Ideal to go with children for its white sand and nearby parking and services.
