Art in Menorca. Hauser & Wirth
We are in luck, we have great news to give you. Next July 17 will be the inauguration of the Hauser & Wirth art center , ( https://www.hauserwirth.com ) nothing more and nothing less than on the Isla del Rey, a mystical place full of history in the port of Mahón .
After two years of work between the architect Luis Laplace and the landscaper Piet Oudolf, where all their efforts have been put into preserving and restoring the 1,500 square meters of the dedicated to art, talks and workshops with projections of contemporary art and social activism, both Inside and outside with sculptures by Chillida or Franz West around the Mediterranean gardens, that is, this new project will be a rural art center inspired by the concept of the famous Hauser & Wirth Somerset located in the South West of England.
In the first case, Hauser & Wirth wants to contribute to protecting the natural environment in which it is located and has made every effort to have all the environmental sustainability measures, such as the collection of rainwater, a system to reuse the water to irrigate the soil and another of energy efficiency for the air conditioning of buildings. Wonderful, sustainable and ambitious in equal measure.
They have also carried out the restoration of the Langara building, on the Isla del Rey itself, to create an exhibition space with eight galleries, a store and the Cantina restaurant , which will be managed by nothing more and nothing less than Binifade
Can you ask for more? Yes you can…. Because I will also tell you that the artist in charge of opening your mouth will be Mark Bradford , the American artist whose latest series of monumental canvases, Cerberus , has already been exhibited at the London headquarters of the Hauser & Wirth gallery. It is named after the dog of the god Hades, that three-headed monster that guarded the gates of hell and prevented the dead from escaping. … all this looks good, but very good (and never better said). We sincerely look forward to visiting this new center dedicated to contemporary art.
